Honored with 2024 California Nonprofit Award

We are thrilled to announce that the Pacific Beach Coalition has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 California Nonprofit Award of the Year. This honor, bestowed by California Assemblymembers Marc Berman of District 23 (part of San Mateo and Santa Clara County), celebrates nonprofits that make significant impacts in their communities. We are deeply grateful for this recognition, which not only highlights our efforts but also the critical environmental issues we fight against every day.

A Commitment to Our Oceans and Environment

At the Pacific Beach Coalition, our mission extends beyond beach cleanups; we are committed to combating ocean pollution, addressing the impacts of climate change, and reducing reliance on single-use plastics. These challenges require persistent effort and dedication, and this award underscores the importance of our work.

  • The Pacific Beach Coalition engaged 12,213 volunteers, and removed 44,813 pounds of trash and recycles, and kept 234,117 cigarette filters out of the ocean throughout San Mateo County in 2023.
  • PBC removed over 9 tons of weeds, mulched over 2 acres of coastal trail, and planted 727 native plants along Pacifica’s Coastal Trail in Pacifica and Daly City.
  • One of our proudest achievements is fostering the leaders of tomorrow and nurturing their passion and commitment to help the planet.
  • The unpaid labor contributed by PBC volunteers in 2023 equates to over $470,000 of volunteer time (Independent Sector).

The Importance of Local and Legislative Support

Receiving this award from Assemblymember Marc Berman of District 23 (San Mateo and Santa Clara County), in partnership with the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), is not just an honor. It’s a crucial platform that enhances our visibility and strengthens our voice in legislative circles. This support enables us to advocate more effectively for policies that protect our environment and sustain our communities.

The Pacific Beach Coalition team  is deeply honored to be recognized by Assemblymember Marc Berman  as a 2024 Nonprofit of the Year, we work hard to educate, engage and inspire people  to help the planet we call home.  And doing it together builds esteem and connects us to each other and to the planet too.”
