Surf’s Up at Linda Mar!

It was a beautiful clear sunny morning today for a beach cleanup at Linda Mar! Antony, Julie and Margo checked in 30 volunteers who picked up 40 lbs of trash and 13 lbs of recycling. The group collected 27 face masks and almost 900 cigarette butts! Our volunteers found a beautiful kite, some beach toys and towels that we can donate. Our fantastic naturalist Marie had a table displaying educational photos, marine life bones and the harmful plastics found on our beach.

The beach was busy, as the Pacifica’s Environmental Family was hosting the 21th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Surf Contest kicking off at 7:30am. The amateur surf contest is designed to honor surfers more experienced in age and to celebrate the intergenerational nature of the sport of surfing; Kahuna, in Hawaiian, means “big chief” and kupuna means “wise elder”.

Thank you to all our Earth Heroes who volunteered today and are keeping Pacifica beautiful!

Join us for the next cleanup! We are at Linda Mar every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9am-11am. Check our online monthly calendar
