Sunday Smiles at the 100 Grand Plaza Cleanup

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, 59 Pacific Beach Coalition volunteers embarked on a meaningful cleanup mission at 100 Grand Plaza and its surrounding area in Foster City. The cleanup yielded 72 pounds of landfill waste, 12 pounds of materials found a second life through recycling, and a staggering 3,125 cigarette butts were collected. The team also stumbled upon some intriguing items during the cleanup including an office chair, automobile parts, a small tire and rim, a shopping cart filled with clothing (to be washed and donated), and even a refrigerator condenser. These findings not only highlight the diverse nature of the issue of littering but also emphasize the importance of community-driven cleanup initiatives like ours.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers from Hillsdale High School, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA), various schools, and individuals who generously donated their time and effort. Your commitment to the community has not gone unnoticed, and we are immensely grateful for the role each of you played in making this cleanup a success.

We appreciate everyone who supports Pacific Beach Coalition’s work and educational programs. Thank you for helping us to protect our beautiful ocean and coastline by donating money, time, or both! Your dollars will go towards our ongoing educational efforts (such as the Naturalists program) and our beach cleanups and habitat restoration efforts along the coastal trail. Thank you so much for any contribution: big or small!
