34 Pounds of Trash and 487 Cigarette Butts Removed October 12th!

We loved having our naturalist Julie Walters with us this month!

A beautiful day greeted 27 volunteers at Montara State Beach. And so did the cigarette butts: 487 cig butts were collected, in addition to 22 lbs. of trash and 7 lbs. of recyclables. Volunteers came from San Carlos, Redwood City, San Mateo, Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, and Menlo Park to comb the beach, parkings lots, and roadside. Six volunteers from Menlo College really boosted our presence. Mel DuBois, a science specialist from the San Mateo Carey School and Miami University graduate student, asked us about sea level rise and its effect on our local coastline. PBC’s naturalist Julie Walters engaged us in her observations on marine life effects.
