March 2026 Site Reports

March 2026 site reports; an image of young adult volunteers at a cleanup

An unseasonably warm and dry month encouraged hundreds of volunteers to give back to the environment. Earth Month may be coming soon, but these Earth Heroes show up all year round.

Check out the site reports from some of our March 2026 events.

Rockaway Beach Cleanup

Our cleanup yesterday may have been one for the record books. Thanks to a large group from Stanford Health, Susan, Vilka, and I had 110 volunteers turn out to clean up Rockaway yesterday, on what may have been one of the most beautiful, bright sunny days we’ve ever had. Teen Site Captain liaison, Gail, came to train several new teen volunteers. Sarah, an audio documentarist, joined for a recording project and interviewed volunteers while she also cleaned up.

While the gigantic bag we filled only weighed about 50 pounds, there were plenty of interesting items collected. A student from Oceana High School collected a chewed up looking traffic cone and a weird broken sign from a seafood restaurant. One of the last volunteers to come in found a weird little drone.

  • 110 volunteers
  • 50 pounds of landfill trash
  • 16 pounds of recyclables
  • 750 cigarette filters

Foster City Cleanup, Marina Plaza

Another fantastic turnout and big results for Foster City! In addition to our regular leaders, Teen Site Captain liaison, Gail, trained a solid group of Teen Site Captains. During the cleanup, buckets were coming back within the first 5 minutes of volunteers heading out and came back in a steady stream all the way through the end of the event. We also separated materials to be recycled with Ridwell.

  • 77 volunteers
  • 301 pounds of landfill trash
  • 150 pounds of recyclables
  • 2,855 cigarette filters

Linda Mar Beach Cleanup

Our cleanup was at the end of a record-breaking heatwave in the Bay Area. Needless to say, there were also record-breaking crowds at the beach all week. Sadly with crowds, we saw even more litter.

Our PBC Linda Mar team — Jim, Ana, Robin, Bill, Danila, Keaton, Shea, and friend Olivia — led a group of 93 volunteers on fun-filled cleanup. Some new odd items included a huge ball of string and loads of clothes and towels.

  • 93 volunteers
  • 120 pounds of landfill trash
  • 30 pounds of recyclables
  • 880 cigarette filters

Mussel Rock Cleanup & Habitat Restoration

We had a group of seven volunteers from Dominican University of California Red Cross Club, several young children, and a dog join our ranks today for the cleanup! We encountered some rusty twisted wire, fishing line, and an old cleanup bucket. Our habitat restoration volunteers worked on laying down mulch in the center island of the parking lot, pulling out weeds, and watering down the mulch to prevent erosion. This work is in preparation for planting native plants in May.

  • 60 volunteers
  • 71 pounds of landfill trash
  • 24 pounds of recyclables
  • 956 cigarette filters
  • 55 pounds of green waste (weeds)
  • 100 square yards mulched

Surfer’s/Harbor Beach Cleanup

Saturday morning at the Pillar Point boat launch started out in a thick layer of fog and ended up with bright sunlight and clean beaches! We had a full house of site captains. Thank you to Charlotte, Evan, Meena, Julie, Melinda, Jack, and Natalie, with a cameo appearance by Teen Site Captain liaison Gail. Cleo, dressed in her doggie lobster costume, slept most of the morning by Natalie’s naturalist table.

This was Charlotte’s last day with us as she will be graduating soon. Thank you, Charlotte, for all your wonderful help this past year. We wish you the best!
