February 2026 Site Reports

There’s undeniable momentum fueling our monthly cleanups and habitat restorations, and it’s being fueled by passionate Earth Heroes like you. In just two short months during the start of 2026, we’ve witnessed waves of passionate community members turning out to protect and restore our coastal and bayside communities. This isn’t just about cleaning up beaches and pulling out weeds; it’s about cultivating long-lasting stewardship.
Check out the site reports from some of our February 2026 events.
Rockaway Beach Cleanup
Susan, Vilka, and Sara had a great turnout for their cleanup. The weather cooperated with calm winds and relatively warm late-winter temperatures. While the surf was heavy and disorganized, at low tide there was little evidence of the dangerous waves we were warned about.
Our Pelican Squad volunteers — Marissa, Arjun, Giovanni, and Giordan — all worked really hard and well together. Of note, two volunteers pulled a giant metal thing off the beach that looks like it may have been a make-shift anchor. Others brought back a heavy climbing contraption, an oil drainage pan, a hubcap, a “tool” bag, sunglasses, a vape, and a weird lighter.
- 49 volunteers
- 83 pounds of landfill trash
- 10 pounds of recyclables
- 935 cigarette filters
Foster City Cleanup
Despite the chances of rain, we still had many participants show up and work hard to clean the parking lots and streets around the lots adjacent to Costco. Many interesting finds, including a tooth from an excavator, hubcaps, broken traffic cones, batteries, and vapes, plus a large amount of cigarette butts.
Thank you so much to our site facilitators, including our naturalist Kelly who engaged many youth about our animal of the year, Andrew and Elise who took charge of sorting the trash and managing cigarette butts, and Sasha who did a bit of everything! Special thanks to the robotics team from Aragon High School who worked extremely hard, then got a lengthy presentation on pelicans. (Robotics team, if you see this message, please tell Mr. Shahrvini that his old student Greg Finkelstein says “hi” and sends his best!). We also saw great participation from the YMSL team, Hillsdale High School, and Notre Dame High School.
Someone told me something that we often hear, “It really didn’t look that dirty out there until I started cleaning, turns out there was a lot of trash!” It is always amazing how much we find with just a little bit of looking.
- 51 volunteers
- 65 pounds of landfill trash
- 32 pounds of recyclables
- 5,074 cigarette filters

We had both of our Pelican Squad Members out helping us on Saturday as well as Honey, Bill, and Mark! Mark was able to take some volunteers down to the creek, and they came back with old furniture and gutter materials.

Linda Mar Beach Cleanup
Well, Mother Nature was our friend again at Linda Mar! After a week of much-needed rain, she gave us a beautiful, sunny day at the beach. PBC members Jim, Ana, Robin, Nicole, Bill, MJ, Keaton, and Shea met an enthusiastic crowd.
Many high schoolers from far and wide were there with parents and friends in tow, logging their service hours with smiles. School clubs from Bay Area colleges joined us for the first time, and our local regulars showed up as usual, ready to hit a beach that from afar looked really clean. As always, what we heard the most was, “That was fun!”
