Water Warriors Needed: Help Native Plants Thrive

Do you love plants and watching them grow?
Every year in January, Pacific Beach Coalition volunteers plant hundreds of native plants along the beautiful and beloved coastal trail from Pacifica State Beach (Linda Mar) to Rockaway Beach. These baby plants need consistent moisture during their first year in order to become firmly established in the ground.
You can help native plants (and wildlife) thrive!
PBC is looking for a small group of dedicated volunteers to water these plants over the course of the year. The water is located in a tank on the hillside near the trail. Volunteers would come out once or twice per month — depending on the weather — and water a section of the hillside.
By joining this important initiative, you’ll gain a deeper knowledge of native plant species and how they help our local coastal ecosystem. Plus, you’ll be a bigger part of our habitat restoration efforts, which have transformed the appearance of this busy recreational thoroughfare.
Our program lead, Greg Finkelstein, will be managing this cohort of volunteer water warriors. Let him know you’re interested before spots are filled!

Did you know?
You may have seen small flags stuck into the ground along the trail and in other patches of land. We install flags to designate locations where we install new plants.
Interested in other habitat restoration efforts?
If you’re not able to water plants or want to participate in other ways, we host three recurring monthly habitat restoration events at Linda Mar Beach, Mussel Rock, and Thornton Vista. Additionally, Calera Creek hosts quarterly events. Read more about each site and sign up for a volunteer day.
